Join the Alliance Française for an engaging discussion featuring French photographers Assia Labbas and Rebecca Topakian and American photographer Sasha Phyars-Burgess in conjunction with the French American exhibition Opening Passages: Photographers Respond to Chicago and Paris, on view at the Chicago Cultural Center and three other venues across Chicago.
During this conversation moderated by curators Carl Fuldner and Pascal Beausse, the artists delve into the thematic elements of their works, exploring concepts such as borders, margins, and the interplay between the center and the periphery. All three have worked in the Greater Paris area and explore language by collecting people’s words or questioning certain expressions.
The conversation is followed by a reception.
Produced by Villa Albertine, Opening Passages is a city-wide, multi-site photographic exhibition featuring recent works by ten American and French artists who are interested in the dynamic social landscapes of Chicago and Paris. Selections from all participating artists are on view together downtown at the Chicago Cultural Center, while site-specific installations at 6018North, BUILD Chicago, and Experimental Station highlight intersections between artists whose work resonates with similar themes or particular areas within each city.
