TRANSplantas: carrying belonging exhibition opening

November 22, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Graphic of a snail crawling across the space leaving a trail that spells out the word "transplantas."

Organized by Tortilleria Gráfica (CDMX) and Marimacha Monarca Press (Chicago), TRANSplantas – carrying belonging is a print exchange portfolio between queer artists in community around Chicago and la Ciudad de Mexico. This portfolio seeks to illustrate queer ecological visions that disrupt binary frameworks and recognize fluidity and otherness. Sharing print invocations for past, present, and future environmental justice, landback, cross pollination / hybridity, and human, flora, and fauna transmigration. Honoring our queer ecosystems that are both as flamboyant as poison dart frogs and as underground as mycelial networks.

Transplants are uprooted organisms with the inherent ability to re-root, to become part of a new environment. They transform the act of severing into the act of belonging and becoming. As TRANSplantas, we too possess the ability to morph the singular into the communal, to foster different ecosystems, and create belonging.

Opening Friday, November 22, 2024, 6:00 – 10:00 p.m., the weekend exhibition continues through November 24.

Participating artists include: LaVa Escarrega, Irene Sánchez, Kuika Adriana, Re Ser Viento, Imprenta Col•lectiva, Jeshua Sicardo, Daniela Castro, Monica Trinidad, Selva Zafiro Luna, Sarita Hernández, Grae Rosa, Trần Lê Diễm Châu, Jose Rosa, Melody Chang Snyder, Frank Peralta,, Diana Solis, and Angela Davis Fegan.

TRANSplantas: carrying belonging is s supported by Hyde Park Art Center’s Artists Run Chicago Fund as part of Art Design Chicago.
