Bits and Bobs: An Extraordinary Collection of Artists’ Books at the Newberry

April 17, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

A sheet of lined notebook paper with handwritten notes. The headline says "Common Threads, Volume LXXXIV." The writing is obscured by a triangular piece of fabric with a large hole at the top.
Candace Hicks, Common Threads, Volume LXXXIV, c. 2018. Collection of the Newberry Library, Case Wing N7433.4.H53 C66 2018.

Join the Newberry Library’s Jill Gage for a look at an exceptional collection of artists’ books gathered over several decades by Robert McCamant, the noted book designer, former president of the American Printing History Association, and longtime graphic designer of the Chicago Reader. Mr. McCamant recently donated parts of this collection to the Newberry. Images from many of the books illustrate this talk. Jill Gage is Custodian of the John M. Wing Foundation on the History of Printing and Bibliographer for British Literature and History at the Newberry Library.
