As part of Roman Susan’s Navigations series, Chicago-based artist John-Michale Korpal leads a guided tour of trees around Warren Park on Chicago’s North Side. In celebration of Arbor Day, the artist shares stories, interactive prompts, and learnings from close observation of this location over the past year. Attendees are invited to look, interact, personify, and engage with the arboreal inhabitants of the park.

Participants can also experience this project independently by finding a Mother Tree in the northeast corner of Warren Park, and proceeding along the walking path clockwise (to the left) at the first branch. Visit Roman Susan’s website for a growing body of resources on how to relate to and learn about trees.

Navigations is an ongoing series of artist-led projects in and about public space. It is supported by Hyde Park Art Center’s Artists Run Chicago Fund as part of Art Design Chicago.
