“Let’s Talk About Art” is Hyde Park Art Center’s innovative hybrid learning program for older adults (65+). Participants explore visual and performing arts, collaborate with Chicago art organizations, and create their own art inspired by exhibits and performances.
As part of this special Art Design Chicago iteration of the program, this session explores the Museum of Contemporary Photography’s exhibition Dawit L. Petros: Prospetto a Mare, which focuses on Chicago’s historical connections to Italian colonialism and explores the legacy of these narratives on visual culture.
Running November 11 – 14, 2024 from 1-2pm daily, the agenda includes:
November 11 (via Zoom): Introduction to the Museum of Contemporary Photography (MoCP), its mission, and history.
November 12 (via Zoom): Discussion on the exhibit exploring links between colonization, migration, and modernism, with a focus on Chicago’s visual culture and its ties to Italian fascism.
November 13 (in-person): Visit to the exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Photography.
November 14 (in-person): Art-making session at Hyde Park Art Center inspired by the exhibition.
