Join 6018North to help repurpose Christmas tree needles for Acres of Blooms, an artwork to be presented at EXPO Chicago 2025. While attendees process the trees, Luftwerk discusses the world of color and nature’s palette. Join in the making of this huge field of color from old pine needles!
A similar process was used in Luftwerk’s Extraction, which is on display in the basement of 6018North as part of the ongoing exhibition Myth of the Organic City – a historical and contemporary overview of Chicago’s design and land use, from its indigenous roots through 20th century infrastructure projects to present-day developments.
Luftwerk is the artistic duo of Petra Bachmaier and Sean Gallero. Since founding in 2007, their practice has developed a significant body of work that explores the interplay of light, color and space through the exploration of data, nature, history, and architecture. Their work is multi-faceted, taking the form of installations, site-specific interventions, and artwork, engaging with landscapes, architecture along with galleries, museums, and art centers.
