June 20, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

A woman wearing a large hat is seated on a couch. In the foreground, a blurry figure operates a video camera.

Presented in conjunction with its exhibition, The United Colors of Robert Earl Paige, Hyde Park Art Center presents a screening of Dear Black Artist. This documentary project  began right before the pandemic and highlights 77 Black artists as an ode to the 77 community areas in Chicago. In the film, a multigenerational group of artists discusses their creative journeys, barriers to access, and their greatest hopes for Chicago’s Black artists in the future. A post film discussion moderated by the film’s creator, Rachel Gadson, includes featured artists Shani Crowe and Shyvette Williams.
