The Chicago Reader recently featured Welcome to Zhegagoynak, a comic by Coco Picard, which highlights the perspectives of artists, curators, and administrators involved in The Block Museum’s newest exhibition, Woven Being: Art for Zhegagoynak/Chicagoland.
“I have been thinking about how museums frame artists’ work, and what we can do to return that agency to the creators… The museum as an institution has a lot of power in framing artwork, and instead of denying that power I would like to advocate for wielding it more thoughtfully and ethically.” – Marisa Cruz Branco (Isleta Pueblo), Terra Foundation curatorial fellow.
Woven Being: Art for Zhegagoynak/Chicagoland is currently on view at Tthe Block Museum through July 13, 2025.
