This spring as part of Art Design Chicago, Deem, a print journal and online platform focused on design as social practice, presented “Designing for Dignity 02: A Convening of Possibilities” at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. This three-day gathering brought together innovative and acclaimed artists, designers, scholars, and organizers to reflect on a range of design-related topics, disciplines, methodologies, and agendas. Through presentations and conversation, interactive workshops and on-site experiences at the museum and throughout Chicago, the symposium explored the premise of dignity as the intrinsic lens for liberatory design practices.
Its presenters were asked to reflect on what designing for dignity means to each of them. Here’s what they shared.
