Carlos Cortéz 100 AÑOS, now on view at the National Museum of Mexican Art through February 18, 2024 as part of Art Design Chicago, celebrates the legacy of Carlos Cortéz Koyokuikatl (1923–2005), whose work uplifted the working class, other marginalized communities, and social struggles by depicting scenes of labor disputes, protests, and otherwise ignored historical events and individuals. Cortez’s work is shown alongside that of 45 artists who illustrate his influence, and the exhibition features a series of video interviews with friends, artists, and poets, all of whom were in community with Carlos Cortéz. Watch and listen to their reflections.
